Oncology social workers are licensed professionals trained in helping people cope with a cancer diagnosis.

They provide counseling, guidance and education about various topics such as:

  • Managing emotions
  • Talking with your loved ones, including children, about your diagnosis and treatment
  • Caregiving needs
  • The importance of completing an advance directive and sharing your medical decisions with your loved ones, regardless of your type or stage of cancer
  • Palliative Care
  • Coping with a diagnosis of advanced cancer
  • Understanding and accessing disability benefits and health insurance
  • Employment related concerns such as FMLA and The Americans with Disabilities Act
  • Finding community resources which may be helpful to you
